Director
$295 Annual Dues

Qualifications

To be eligible for membership as a Director, you must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be licensed or qualified as a laboratory director of a clinical, bioanalytical or environmental laboratory by any federal or state agency.
  • Be a Diplomate (certified director) of the American Board of Bioanalysis or be certified as a Laboratory Director by another national certifying agency acceptable to the AAB Membership Committee.

Supervisor
$120 Annual Dues

Qualifications

To be eligible for membership as a Supervisor, you must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be qualified as a laboratory supervisor under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA ’88), or in a laboratory licensed by a federal or state agency that requires such licensure.
  • Be certified as a supervisor by the American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB) or another national certifying agency acceptable to the AAB Membership Review Committee.

Manager

Qualifications

To be eligible for membership as a Manager, you must have:

  • Less than 10% ownership share or financial interest in a laboratory or the parent company of a laboratory; not be qualified as a director, consultant, or supervisor under the CLIA ’88 regulations, now or as they may be amended; and be actively engaged in an administrative or managerial position in a CLIA-certified clinical laboratory or a federally certified or state licensed bioanalytical laboratory, e.g., environmental, embryology, public health, or veterinary laboratory.

Faculty
$75 Annual Dues

Qualifications

To be eligible for membership as a Faculty Member, you must:

  • Be a laboratory director, manager, or supervisor who is a full-time college or university faculty member with teaching responsibilities in the bioanalytical sciences. Full-time is defined as teaching full-time and not directing, managing or supervising a laboratory.

Armed Forces

Qualifications

To be eligible for membership as an Armed Forces Member, you must:

  • Be a laboratory director, manager, or supervisor who is a full-time active-duty member of the U.S. Armed Forces.

  • Be an individual evidencing a serious interest in the activities of the Association.

Affiliate

Qualifications

To be eligible for membership as an Affiliate Member, you must:

  • Be a “Professional Partner” to laboratories, i.e., provide services or consultations that involve the laboratory testing process. Examples of Professional Partners include, but are not limited to, industrial hygienists (for environmental testing), genetic counselors (for genetic testing), and remediation specialists (for environmental testing).
Emeritus
$0 Annual Dues

Qualifications

To be eligible for membership as an AAB Emeritus Member, you must:

  • Be a member of AAB who is no longer actively engaged in professional or business endeavors and who has been an AAB member for at least 10 years.

Honorary

Qualifications

To be eligible for membership as an Honorary Member, you must:

  • Be an individual whose achievements entitle him/her to special recognition by the Association.

Inactive
$25 Annual Dues

Qualifications

To be eligible for membership as an Inactive Member, you must:

  • Be a member of AAB who has left the field of bioanalysis for another field of endeavor, but who wishes to retain an affiliation with the Association.

Life
$0 Annual Dues

Qualifications

Life membership is an honorary membership granted by AAB’s Board of Directors to a member whose contributions to the Association merit recognition by the award of lifetime membership.

Such individuals shall be nominated for life membership by the Membership Review Committee. Life members are not required to pay dues and are entitled to vote and hold office for all elective positions for which they were eligible at the time they are awarded Life Membership.

AMS Class Membership Types

Registrant Class
$102 Annual Dues (MT, MDxT, MLT, ALS, ELS) | $65 Annual Dues (POLT) | $43 Annual Dues (PBT)

Qualifications

To be eligible for membership as AMS Registrant Class, you must meet the qualifications, standards and requirements established by the AAB Board of Registry (ABOR).

Registrant Class membership is limited to individuals currently certified by ABOR and is a benefit of maintaining your ABOR certification.

Regular Class

Qualifications

To be eligible for membership as AMS-Regular Class, you must be actively engaged in, or have an active interest in, clinical or bioanalytical laboratory technology and not be certified by the AAB Board of Registry.

Student Class
$35 Annual Dues

Qualifications

To be eligible for membership as AMS-Student Class, you must be enrolled full-time in a laboratory-related curriculum at a college, university, community college, or vocational school that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Office of Education. Part-time students are eligible for student membership only if they are not employed in the laboratory field.

In order to process student membership, a current official academic transcript verifying studies must be forwarded to the AAB office directly from the issuing institution and must be official and contain the seal of the educational institution.

Retired Class
$35 Annual Dues

Qualifications

To be eligible for membership as AMS-Retired Class, you must no longer be gainfully employed in a clinical or bioanalytical laboratory because of age or medical reasons and must have been a member of AMS at the time of retirement.

Life Class
$0 Annual Dues

Qualifications

AMS-Life membership is an honorary membership granted by the AMS Administrative Board to an AMS-Registrant Class or AMS-Regular Class member whose contributions to the AMS merit recognition by the award of a lifetime membership.

Such individuals shall be nominated for life membership by the AMS Membership Committee. Life members are not required to pay dues.
