Government and Public Affairs

Through its full-time presence in Washington DC, AAB monitors events in Washington as well as in the fifty state capitols and furnishes members with up-to-the-minute reports and alerts. AAB takes a proactive stance on federal and state levels to ensure that the interests of the clinical laboratory are represented, and AAB advocates just and uniform regulation of all laboratory service providers.

AAB represents your professional interests and testifies at various hearings before Congress, state legislatures, and regulatory agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Participation and membership in other organizations and alliances is another way AAB constantly is on the watch for intrusions upon your rights as a clinical laboratory professional. AAB participates in a number of coalitions involving clinical laboratory associations, including the Clinical Laboratory Coalition (CLC), the Coalition Opposed To Competitive Bidding, the FDA Roundtable on In Vitro Devices (IVDs), the Health Professions Network (HPN), and the Coordinating Council on the Clinical Laboratory Workforce (CCCLW).  AAB also works closely with CDC and Homeland Security on bioterrorism preparedness.
