CRB 2022 Symposium Recap
Arthur Chang, PhD, HCLD/ELD/CC(ABB)
CRB Past-President (2021-22) and 2022 Meeting Committee Chair
The 2022 CRB Symposium/CRB Workshop was a great success, with 220 attendees and speakers participating in the multi-part program and interacting extensively with the sponsors.
On the first day, the “Back to the Future” workshop started with invited speakers addressing exciting new and advanced scientific and technical developments in reproductive technology, as well as emerging legal and liability issues. Participants worked directly with the sponsors during the hands-on rotation. We then had a very interactive session covering a wide range of lab-related topics such as equipment, practice, staffing, legal issues, and work-life balance.
The CRB Symposium focused on both scientific and practical knowledge. The broad range of lectures was very well received. The audience appreciated the depth of scientific review on Y chromosome and abnormal spermiogenesis; practical techniques in ICSI, biopsy and vitrification/warming; the current challenge of lab staffing and continually evolving models of personnel training; adventurous entrepreneurship for embryologists; the amazing new realms of blockchain and reproductive medicine in space; and it is always fascinating to see insightful debates on current topics like abandoned embryos and PGT.
The success of this year’s program is due to great teamwork and has been three years in the making. Former CRB Presidents/Meeting Chairs Dr. Tony Anderson and Dr. Dara Berger initiated and planned a portion of the program for the 2020 and 2021 symposia, which were impacted by the pandemic. They also provided valuable guidance for the 2022 conference planning. Special thanks go to our CRB 2022 Meeting Committee and moderator/volunteers including Al-Hasen Said, Darlene Davies, Salu Ribeiro, Tony Anderson, Sheela Ali, Charlene Schweder, Marlane Angle, Shawn Breen, Gerry Celia, Debbie Venier, Liesl Nel-Themaat, and all the hard work Mark Birenbaum, Tammie Schalue, and the AAB staff put into this meeting! In addition, many thanks to the sponsors - the program would not be successful without them.
The 2023 CRB Symposium planning has started and is led by Salu and the Meeting Committee. The location will be announced soon, and we look forward to another exciting CRB conference. See you all next year!
