EMA(AAB) – Environmental Microbiology Analyst

 
 

Individuals may be certified as an Environmental Microbiology Analyst - EMA(AAB) in bacteriology (including endotoxins) and/or mycology (including mycotoxins).

To be certified as an EMA(AAB) – Environmental Microbiology Analyst – an individual must meet one (1) of the following requirements and pass the applicable AAB Board of Registry's EMA examination:

 

  1. Earn a baccalaureate degree, or the equivalent, from an accredited university or college with a major in microbiology, biology, or a related life science, including at least:

  • Nine (9) semester hours in microbiology, and

  • Two (2) years of experience in the related discipline;

OR

  1. Earn an associate degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with a major in microbiology, biology, or a related life science, including at least:

  • Nine (9) semester hours in microbiology, and

  • Three (3) years of experience in the related discipline;

OR

  1. Be a high school graduate, or equivalent, and have:

  • Passed the HHS (formerly HEW) Proficiency Examination for medical technologists under the CLIA '67/Medicare regulations, and

  • Six (6) years of experience in the related discipline;

OR

  1. Be a high school graduate, or equivalent, and have the minimum of:

  • Nine (9) semester hours in microbiology from an accredited college, university or community college, and

  • Eight (8) years of experience in the related discipline.
