On September 14, 2011, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued a Proposed Rule to amend HIPAA and CLIA regulations to permit patients direct access to laboratory test results. The new rule would require a laboratory, upon request by a patient, to provide access to completed test reports without having these reports first shared with the patient by the treating physician. The rule presents challenges and opportunities for the laboratory community, and NILA and AAB will be responding to HHS with comments as the agency works to prepare a final rule. This webinar was held to help clinical laboratories understand how this rule would amend current law and regulatory requirements, what laboratories must do to comply with new requirements, and what challenges and opportunities this will present for your business.
