PBT(AAB) – Phlebotomy Technician |
To be certified as PBT(AAB) – Phlebotomy Technician – an individual must meet one (1) of the following requirements:
| 1. | Be a high school graduate (or equivalent) |
| AND | |
| Complete within the last five (5) years a phlebotomy training school program accredited by an accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, or a phlebotomy program approved by the California Department of Health Services or any other state approved agency acceptable to the Board | |
| AND | |
| Successfully complete a minimum of one hundred (100) venipunctures and twenty-five (25) skin punctures within the ten (10) years immediately prior to the application date | |
| AND | |
| Pass the AAB Board of Registry's Phlebotomy examination. | |
| OR | |
| 2. | Be a high school graduate (or equivalent) |
| AND | |
| Complete within the last five (5) years an acceptable phlebotomy training program consisting of a minimum of | |
| - forty (40) clock hours of classroom instruction/training that includes anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system; specimen collection processing and handling; and appropriate safety, quality control, and administrative functions for phlebotomists |
|
| AND | |
| - forty (40) clock hours of practical training/instructions | |
| AND | |
| Successfully complete a minimum of one hundred (100) venipunctures and twenty-five (25) skin punctures within the ten (10) years immediately prior to the application date | |
| AND | |
| Pass the AAB Board of Registry's Phlebotomy examination. | |
| OR | |
| 3. | Be a high school graduate (or equivalent) |
| AND | |
| Complete within the last five (5) years a minimum of six (6) months (1040 clock hours) of full time work experience as a phlebotomist in a CLIA-regulated laboratory | |
| AND | |
| Successfully complete a minimum of one hundred (100) venipunctures and twenty-five (25) skin punctures within the ten (10) years immediately prior to the application date | |
| AND | |
| Pass the AAB Board of Registry's Phlebotomy examination. | |
